Do You Have A Love of Reading ??

Do You Have A Love of Reading !!

The shout “bedtime!” at the end of the day is greeted with cheers at the Jaffer household, thanks to a fun ritual that the whole family looks forward to — reading together.

“Reading a story to the children is part of our daily bedtime routine,” says Rahim Jaffer, of Vancouver — father to 5-year-old Keyaan and 22-month-old Mikyle — “so much that Keyaan won't go to sleep unless he's had a chance to read a story, even a short one.”

Children are like sponges: eager to learn. Research indicates that when soaked with the right kind of learning —such as reading. Parents can improve their children’s chances of being successful at school, simply by being active and regular readers to them.

But what evidence supports this belief? In a report called The Effect of Family Literacy Interventions on Children’s Acquisition of Reading, Dr Monique Sénéchal, an associate professor of psychology at Carleton University, did a review of 14 intervention studies, representing 1174 families. She found that parent involvement does have a positive impact on children’s reading acquisition.

“Reading books to young children exposes children to ideas, concepts, and language that can be novel, more varied, and more complex than those typically introduced during parent-child conversations,” says Dr Sénéchal.

Start Early
In today’s society, where the bar for both success and competence is much higher than ever before, it is imperative that children acquire linguistic and cognitive skills long before entering elementary school.  By the age of five, children differ markedly in their success in reaching the required developmental goals.

Laila Ladha, who is an avid reader to her 9-year-old daughter Alina, offers great advice to parents:

“From day one when your child comes home from the hospital, start reading to him or her,” she says. When her daughter was an infant, Ladha would take time out from her hectic schedule to sit down and read to her while the baby would touch the pictures. Today Alina is an advanced reader and currently enrolled in a gifted and talented programme at her elementary school.

“Reading aloud to children should begin in the womb, love of reading in young children through music and storytelling. It opens their minds up to the world and builds their sense of inquiry, leading to a higher level of thinking.”

A few minutes a day to develop a Habitual Reader:

Consistency is the key when it comes to making a commitment to read to your child, whether it is for 15 minutes, 30 minutes or interspersed throughout the day. It is never too late to start. It is imperative that older children are encouraged to continue the practice.

Young children might not have the patience to sit for longer lengths of time. Sit them down on your lap and read for 30 seconds or even a minute, Involve them in the story by asking leading questions. Then, gradually increase the time as their interest peeks.

Nazim Karim of California, who is the editor of The Ismaili USA, notes how reading to his two sons — Alykhan and Jamil — every evening for 30 minutes, paid off in the long run. Both the boys, now in their twenties, are voracious readers and write extremely well.

The result might not be seen instantly, but the day you see it, we guarantee you will feel proud in cultivating the love of reading in your children.”

Tips for parents

The following are tips for Parents to develop healthy reading habits in their children:

Make reading a bonding time:
Choose a book or two to read with your children as a way to spend quality time together rather than sit in front of the television. If your child has a favorite TV show, check out a book from the library that features the characters from that show.

Be regular in reading:
Read regularly to your children and lead by example by being a reader yourself. When your children see the importance of reading in your life, chances are they would take it seriously too.

Visit libraries and Book Stores:
Make regular visits to the library and bookstores with your children and help them choose books that interest them.

Make reading fun:
When sitting with a book, discuss the visual portions of the book with your children. Younger children also respond with enthusiasm to animated expressions and special sound effects.

Make reading rewarding:
As special incentive for good behaviour or on special occasions, reward your children with extra reading time or books. Consider putting your children into summer reading programmes.

Remember:
Reading to children is one of the best ways to put them on the road to Success - Academically and Personally.

11-year Pak girl sets world record in O-level

11-year Pak girl sets world record in O-level

Brilliant young girl Sitara Akbar, who is only 11 years old and a resident of Chiniot, set a world record by passing O-level English, Mathmatics and Science.

At a young age, she developed a habit of questioning everything taking nothing for granted, according to her father Brooj Akbar.

This is not the first time that the eleven-year-old girl from Chanab area of Chiniot had dazzled the world with her brilliance. She had passed O-level Chemistry in nine years of age, hitting a record in Pakistan. Sitara then went ahead and succeeded in setting her first world record after passing O-level Biology at the age of 10.

She recently took the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) test where she scored a 7 band out of 9.The score is required by most international universities and colleges for admission in postgraduate degree programmes.

The only reason she took the test to begin with was to get an informed idea of where she stood at the international level concerning English. Sitara speaks English with the confidence of an adult, giving speeches in front of large audiences at the tender age of five. Asked about the causes behind her academic excellent, the 11-year old replied simply: “You have to teach your children at a young age; that is the age for learning. If you do not teach them at that age, then it is all useless.”

Scouting in Pakistan

Pakistan got independence on August 14, 1947 and even before that Scouting was in the Sub Continent. It was the scouts who were on the road for protest in the favor of independence, it was the scouts who supported the public in the administrative work in the Independence movement. We must engage our youth in a better program where we can advance our self in every field of life.

Pakistan Scouts Association formally known as Pakistan Boy Scouts Association was created on December 1, 1947 with headquarter in Karachi. Gradually with the passage of time it shifted to Islamabad where we have biggest campsite of Pakistan

Scouting in Pakistan works on 4 Aspects
  • Physical
  • Mental
  • Social
  • Religious
Whereas working on Emotional aspect and course development is still practiced by the teams. In Pakistan scouts are the most effective youth organization being practiced.
Everyone remember the Earth Quake of 2005, the Floods in the last year, the team to support the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP's) were scouts. With their skills they supported them in building temporary houses in the form of camp, some gadgets which means the daily furniture with some wood and ropes, cook on the wood stoves and even cook without utensils. That are some of the features which differentiate Scouts from other youth.
Scouts have the title of the first ambassadors of Pakistan.
Pakistan got independence on 14 August 1947 and its Flag was first Hoisted in the 6th World Jamboree at France by the Indo-Pak Scouts, at the 7th world Jamboree it was again scout who first time represented Pakistan through this way they are called the first ambassadors who represented Pakistan in front of the whole world
Today we need some other organizations like scouting which can support Pakistan to uplift its position, today its again the scouts who can improve the image, who can improve Pakistan, infront of every one by interacting with them, they got this great opportunity to Support their community, country and I hope that they will fulfill the the hope of every Pakistani Citizen

World Scout Jamboree - Step Towards New World

Scouting was started in 1907 when Baden Powell camped with 20 scouts at brown c island with the aim to engage youth in fruitful activities which can strengthen them plus teach them to live Independently. The camp became a huge success and paved the way towards today's scouting which consist of Youth engaging activities to "Create a Better World". For this purpose, Scouting for Boys (1908) was published, Guiding, Different Category of Scouts were created and the most creative one was World Scout Jamboree, where the Scouts of the world meet.

First WSJ held at London (1920) and with the period of every 4 years, these jamborees were organized with different places. This year it was Kristianstad Sweden where jamboree was hosted.

This year 40,000 scouts from 161 Countries participated to create a better world. We all meet with each other, know each other, share cultures, create bridges with them, its the universal language of love which is spoken by the whole world.

We speaks Urdu similarly people from Mexico and Spain speaks Spanish likewise Japanese was the language of Japan but the question arises that how does the people communicate? engage with each other?

Different core activities as well as side activities are being organized by the WOSM and the National Scout Movements it self, which includes Cultural Day, Friendship Award, Global Development Village, Messengers of Peace, Quest, Dreams and the count goes on..

Friendship Award was given to those people who can make 8 friends of different countries, learn the basic of their language i.e. Hi, How are you, Bye, can greet them, knows their culture, their National Heroes, plus the participants got some friends from abroad alike from the ones whom they daily meet.

Messenger of Peace, supported by Saudi-Arabian Scouts Association,UNO and other NGO's which invited the whole world to have some activities within their own town to promote peace and understanding between the different countries. They got a oath "I'm a messenger of Peace" and the most interesting was the logo of this movement.

Messenger of Peace

There's a task, find a Persian/Arabic word in this logo.

In GDV (Global Development Village) Scouts were taught to create a city safe from floods, plus one scout from each contingent were called to share the Natural Disasters in their countries plus remedies they are doing. Experts were called to show their ideas to give their suggestions.

Scouts from one camp invites other countries to meet with them, learn their traditions, have their food. French, Algerian and Others came into our camp, Food we made was too spicy for them but they all liked it. In fact I remember a Swedish guy who came for meals a couple of time after tasting our food. We taught them "Dil Dil Pakistan" and other National Songs. In the same way we visit their camp, and likewise activities were held.

Cultural Day was disastrous, where we wore our cultural dresses, exchanged our food, swapped cultural dress, played their local games, shared values. In this way we met with the whole world without a language, I was shocked to see that emotions and love doesn't need a language. The people who don't know each other and even don't familiar with the one's language, talked, swapped, enjoyed, understood emotions, supported them. They way we thought of them was much more opposite than it was, they supported us like brothers and sisters and at times more than them. If we ask someone a route, and he didn't know that, he will go and ask someone then tell us about it.

Today we need a world like this, activities like this. We should promote such kind of activities to engage youth in a better way in order to make them away from the social evils and other bad habits.

Writing - Execrate

[Use The Word Execrate = : to dislike and criticize (someone or something) very strongly]
Writing, which is difficult task for me, is essential for life because it is the way of expressing things that you can't do verbally or with anybody.
you always wanted someone listen to you, suggests you, helps you, share your feelings, negociate with you Give advices, stay friendly with you and in todays world no one as enough time to even stay with you addionaly if both gets time so it mismatch, the key to this puzzle is just infront of you.. just write write write, the best way of expression either in your personal diary or on blog or even on status of facebook.
Writings are always being important in the early ages, Bible, Quran and Differnt Holy Book even the scluptures found at Indus Valley Civilization also shows about the writing. This means that Since 3500 Before Crist this tradition is on going, important and encouraged.. :)
People says that pen's sharpness is even greater than Shapness of sword, this is the reason, today media is catching ones eye, it can execrate or bless someone, boost or hinder. it depend of its usage
Writing is the only thing which we are taught since nursery of or Montesori, but as soon as we go big big and bigger we forgets it and gets involved in differnts medium and time waster social networking even it can also be used for this purpose, it depends upon us that what we do, either use it in the way we want or diminish it.
the future of this world is in our hand....

The way we think.

The way we think

Comment of the above picture: it is half empty or it is half filled?
We could doing things wrong or we could teaching others not to do these mistakes.
Art of giving could be a mercy on others or it can be help.
We can comment to enhance one’s personality or to degrade them
There could exist your enemies or it could be dislike of you among people.

Quest - Simply Scouting

Mindblowing, Awesome, Energetic, Lovely, Struggling, Creative, Dynamic such a great activity planned by the jamboree Team.

We used to see in the POGO Tv Channel the games there to run, jump off the wood, slip in the water, go through the muds, ring the drum, but now it was the time for us to do that so.. It was really a great fun to go for the game that we used to see and laugh, needed concentration, energy, hope, curiosity, and the Team Sprit.. we ran off towards the hurdles which was wood piles about of 4 ft high, we jumped off that so we seen some web like thing to climb on it, as we jumped from that wood height it was the plansic tent by which we've to crawl and pass it on, this wasn't enough so they made a slide of wood, mud and water.. :P in which we splash.. !!! WoowWW.. What an activity it was...

following it we entered into the Maze, alotted a particular time, we've to find the 3 codes there...
the whole team run around, visiting the site, roaming the whole arena, forgot and lost, found something but lost the way, code on the keys.. sprit in the scouts, passion on head, its simply maze.. in which we are being watch by IST team from the tower. :P and guided by them.. finally after 3 activities we got the code to unlock the keys.. :)

it was such a great experience that i can't forget.. it was simply amazing..
ended by the closing ceremony was the dance on "magarita" and Tonight gonna be a good night it was so amazing that in the whole life we canot forget this.. :)

Camp in Camp

Leave Nothing But Thanks -
Camp Law -
Sir Robert Stephenson Smith Baden Powell of Gilwill

Camp in Camp, a newly introduced event which means you have to do a camp while you are in camping, it sounds really interesting when you say camp, but it is much more difficult to do that, explain that, show that, perform that.
We were told that we have to go for camp in camp, preparations all around, curiosity, excitement, yelling all around, we just wanted to experience what is it, how it is done..
We were told to sit on the bus, the 2 hour drive led us to a new campside, where the germans were there.. they were host for us, they gave a big tent in which Austrians, Itallian, French, Dutch, Japenese, UK People, and we, Pakistani were there... it was a huge black tent.
As we went there, we were asked to made up the dinner, it was a hole digged and some burnt wood were there.. we were so confused that what will happen and what we will do... Hosts gave us a Pan for the cooking and showed us the way for the wood. We gathered some wood, and with the help of German Kid's Ligher, Light up the Stove..
Now it was hurdle for the cooking oil which was missing in our kit :P we went to the hosts and again they helped us in finding that... we made some KABAB's and had our lunch..
after we gone for the activity in which there was monkey band, Friendship band, lizard and much more... i selected the friendship band because I already know how to make some .. but it was a new and tough one with new designing in it.. :|
After the band I go for the Badminton, it was so fun to play with the Norway people, one of them was a really good player..
continuing the day we gone for the volley ball and after that done the camp fire..
The german songs, the Itallian Dance, and ofcourse the Pakistani Aalo Yaante Rocked the camp fire there and the new and awesome was their yell..
"Uri Uri Uri" ... "yea Yea Yea"... Was the best part of that night..
It was so cold and the bugs doesn't wanted us to sleep in the tent.. so we all decided to sing the songs whole night through the fire.. a leader and a participant of UK, Hosts and the Pakistani Sung their songs through out the mid night.. indeed it was the germans who said the good night to all of us in a gentle manner through the beats and strings of guitar, it was the soft and a gentle good night that led us to the sweet dreams

In the morning suddenly some people came in our camp and starting singing, what the mess it was, we all stood up and saw, it were again the germans who wanted to say us good morning in a new way that we had'nt seen... we didn't understand the whole song but the thing that we know is the GOOD MORNING word that they told us ;)
Finally It was time to cook food for the break fast and after that lunch, patrol with lots of hurdle could make up the food in with such limited resources
So hard camp, the hardest time we had but the thing that we learnt is to live in the hardest conditions

SCOUTING ROCKS... !!!

July 28, 2011

Today, July 28, 2011, simple but a rainy day for us.. it was so fun with the new friends, doing activities with them, having fun, sharing ideas with them
started off with the breakfast in the morning we headed towards the people activity and after that we had our lunch and then we gone towards summer camp for swapping but unfortunately we were in winter :P we even don't know that we were in winter.. we started swapping, finding new poeple for new badges, new contacts and new friends... we swapped with the winter people, took pictures, shared about Pakistan and had fun with them. We roamed in the winter meet new people, tried to learn their language.. after that we came towards our camp for dinner... we made keema, ate it, it was so delicious and made us remember Pakistani Street foods..
after the dinner we again gone for swapping as were were fond of doing that and as it was the start so we all wanted to do all the swapping first :P this time we found some woggles too... it was so fun to be at the World Scout Jamboree 2011...
I must say that every scout must attend jamboree to increase some experience, some socialization in their life..
Thank You.. :)

Filmed by: Rabie Abu, 22nd World Scout Jamboree

Lyrics:

Changing the world
D. Lemma, P. Klang

When you give a minute
When you stop and think
It ain't too hard to find
The connecting link
People want the same things
We dream of a happy end
We're just caught in the same commotion
And time slips away

Rain.. !!

Rain..
Each drop of the rain carry's a message but we are those who can't get those, we cannot understand, sometimes we think of them but don't understand them..
we often become sad, we often think of memories..
We never thought that why the rains comes from the sky? isn't there any other way??
Why we have never thought of that?
Rain pleases us but can it be supportive?
Can it give us confidence?
Does it gives courage to face challenges?
Its the will that do all
from summer to fall
Rain. !!

Are We Living in a Women Dominant Society?

Society has always objected towards the man's approach in which biased words were used like chairman, sportsman, freshman and much more which was now being replaced by the more neutral ones which says chairperson, sports person and so on but nowadays the people should keep in view that instead of men, this social environment is being converted into Women Supremacy, through targeting men they are approaching towards a Ladies era.

Today the women are ruling the world through their privileges. Whenever she shouts for a cause, immediately positively responded nevertheless the purpose does not favor her. For instance in Pakistan whenever a woman claims or shouts everybody stands in the favor of her whatever the matter is, not concerning who is right just they support the females. Whenever they do anything wrong, opponents are always being scolded. Consequently they always have the upper hand in the different situations.

There is an old Russian Saying,

JOTA - JOTI

3rd week of the October is always fun...
Organized by World Organization of Scout Movement, Jota - Joti is a wonderful event which connect the world through media. It means Jamboree On The Air (Jota), Jamboree on The Internet (Joti). Joti is a Unique Event in which everyone in the world can participate just you need a Internet Connection, Web Browser, a Chatting Software Such as mIRC, and a Email.

I really love this event its a nice event to interact with the people, every year new people with valuable experiences come here to meet new people, interact with them and to share with them. Every year there is some themes and some activities which you can do while sitting a long distance. This year the theme is Unity, Natural Disaster.

I met some Swedish Cub Scouts which were 11 12 years old, who were the one of the camp in camp host in the World Scout Jamboree.. the asked me language of Pakistan and the names. One of them visited the Thailand he find the new land so much interesting and different from their culture. :)

Dreams - World Scout Jamboree

2300 Hours, searching for light in the dark forest, journey from old age to the birth of a child, a experience that remembered us our History to Destination in just 2 hours which was quite unusal but was too interesting...

At the end of summer town, some IST's with some Glowing Sticks waving, a series of gas Lights beside them were desperately waiting for some participants to come to them, there was a long run way which we have to cross for the next instruction from there we would go to our first destination, which was the old age.

Cultural Day WSJ

Karen Armstrong Quotes
Each of the world religions has its own particular genius, its own special insight into the nature and requirements of compassion, and has something unique to teach us.

World Scout Jamboree - 40600 Participants, nah.. now its 48000 People.... !!!
hosts of the camp in camp are here, visiting the campsite, watching how we live daily, whats our culture, how we spend our day.

C Language Learning

It is impossible to communicate without a language, and the point to consider is the similarity of language between two bodies.
Considering this point many computer languages were made and taught to both, computer and users. Forton, Pascal, Cobol, Algol, and many others were invented but it was the C language by Dennis Ritchie Which made its way towards the new style of programming.
Concept from other languages, this language deals with numerous functions, types like Arrays, Pointers, Functions, Recursion, Data Structure, Variables, Basic Airthmatic, and much more..
You would not see the other languages using today, but it is C language which is still used as a comparative low level language :)
